Alberto Cardone was an Italian filmmaker who showed preference for the western (his short films, directed only eleven titles, seven are spaghetti).

In 1966 leading two spaghetti ( "Seven dollars the red " and this one) that form a kind of diptych tragic and religious connotations of the family, and have many points in common. Thus, in both their titles ( "Bloodbath at sunrise" is entitled originally Mille dollari sul nero ") refer to the game, the family, specifically the destruction of it, is of great importance for which will accentuate the melodramatic elements of the stories, the first opens with a biblical quotation taken from the Proverbs of King Solomon alluding to the relationship between parents and children while the latter is closed with another quote, this time of Leviticus, concerning the main theme of this, the confrontation between brothers ( "Do not hate your brother in your heart, and do not stand up against your blood" ), not only matches the main actor (Anthony Steffen), but also appear in similar roles as Carla Calo (first to the role of adoptive mother of Jerry, while the second is the mother of the two protagonists) and Roberto Miali (in "Seven dollars a red" played the role the son of the protagonist while "Bloodbath at sunrise" is practically adopted by the hero as well be called in Jerry both films), the soundtrack to a major issue with many similarities and the prevailing wind instruments, and in the first spaghetti it was composed by Francesco de Masi and played the trombone solo by Michele Lacerenza, while the second composition corresponds to the latter in addition to playing the trumpet solo, and finally the two spaghetti were produced by Mario Siciliano.

SYNOPSIS: Johnny Liston after serving a sentence of twelve years for a murder he did not commit finds that his brother, Sartana, encouraged by his mother, has become a feared outlaw that, more mafia style, extort the inhabitants of the region by promising security in exchange for payment of sums abusive. Johnny will have to change this situation, a fact that will lead to confrontation with his brother.

spaghetti We are facing a dark and hard with plenty of scenes of great violence as one in which a gunman used his horse to crush a woman and her baby or death Sartana lieutenant, in which the writers, among them Ernesto Gastaldi it would do more wisely in "Your head a thousand dollars" , reflect on family ties and the difficult relations that exist between siblings and parents especially predominant feelings of jealousy and rivalry. In addition to the credit of the script should write the psychological study of the characters, more depth than usual in this subgenre, and the two brothers, who are far from flat characters, will be discussed between the brotherly bond still exists and the need to resist both, once they finish with the other. But I think all these virtues are largely overshadowed by not having been able, or not chosen, develop writers and by picking a large part of the movie-worn paths and easy (There is plenty of fights without much sense as the initial character holding two henchmen of his brother, gunfire a little weary and the comings and goings with horses almost always the same landscapes, limited testing was presumed that for making the film) so that the development of the plot suffers a lot and does not stop progress adequately (not quite understand the sudden change that occurs in the mother of the two protagonists, while the scene which discovered the goings of the judge is of great simplicity).

Alberto Cardone, Albert Cardiff in the opening credits, I think I did not know how fully exploit the material that is between his hands, in addition to directing, to me, quite unfortunate and hasty, a fact evident in the many levels misframing and occasional blurring, and, abusing the zoom of typical levels in outdoor air or close-ups (more typical of silent movies.) To this we must add a somewhat chaotic assembly very abrupt transitions between different scenes (do not know if it will be due to a court that has the version I saw). However achieves moments of great intensity, especially those concerning the relationship between mothers and their children, and other aesthetic values night as the sequence in which numerous men carrying torches Sartana surrounding Johnny.
emphasizes the positive side, no doubt, the soundtrack composed by Michele Lacerenza (composer and instrumentalist) dramatically varied and well used, which also has a great theme.

Another feature is the division by bringing together two of the most emblematic players of this subgenre: Anthony Steffen and Gianni Garko. The first plays Johnny Liston convicted of a crime that he did not commit an attempt, despite the opposition and mistrust of the inhabitants of the region back into society, at the same time that will be despised by her mother for not using brute force and will be discussed between the love he still feels for his brother and the need to end their abuse. Despite its known limitations I think it is better than other spaghetti, also displayed in full form in the action scenes. Gianni Garko, in his debut eurowestern makes a great composition as Sartana (nothing to do with the character you incarnate on four occasions under the direction of Gianfranco Parolini and Giuliano Carnimeo) a tortured man, jealous of his brother (even uses who is in prison for free with the former girlfriend Manuela Johnny), with some Oedipus complex and violent that has made the brute force terrorizing their livelihood, mafia-style, to the people of the region with their men with whom they live in a kind of pre-Columbian ruins creaking a bit. The truth is that the presentation of the character throwing food that is full of sand to Jerry, then hit him with a whip is really good. Joining them in a role with greater relevance of which were reserved for women in spaghetti, Carol Brown, Carla Calo actually, as the mother of the protagonists who, dressed in deep mourning, living in a kind of mansion Victorian (reminded me slightly in some sequence to the mother of Norman Bates in "Psycho "), a woman resentful, bitter and tortured having great guilt Sartana behavior as jelly that through the violence has gotten out of poverty and the alleged humiliation by Campos, City came to suffer, while he despises the attitude of Johnny who do not even know keep a colt. This shows the great importance the scene where Sartana after murder in cold blood a man, Johnny asks his mother "What this has become my brother?" and she replied: "He knows what it does. If you have killed the know why " . Joining them on paper Roberto Miali under somewhat histrionic as Jerry, the brother of Manuela moved to be "taken " by Johnny, Franco Fantasia repeats the role of sheriff "Seven dollars a red" , Austrian Sieghardt Rupp is great as the sinister lieutenant Sartana and Erika Blanc in the role of the daughter of the man he allegedly murdered Johnny, who inexplicably happens to want to kill him fall in love with him.

In short spaghetti an interesting and entertaining in that sense a very good story that gradually fades as the inadequate work of director and by the continued use of trite sequences of shootings, fights and rides, strengthened against the development of drama.
